🦷 After Anesthesia
✔ Monitor your child closely for 2 hours after their appointment.
✔ Keep them on a soft or liquid diet until the numbness completely wears off.
✔ Remind them NOT to:
🚫 Bite, suck, or chew on their lips, cheeks, or tongue (this can cause injury).
🚫 Touch or play with the numb area.
💡 Tip: Younger children may not realize they are biting their cheeks or lips, so extra supervision is important.
🦷 After a Filling or Crown
✔ Ensure they do not chew while numb to prevent accidental bites to the soft tissue.
✔ Food restrictions for 24 hours:
❌ No sticky, crunchy, or hard foods (e.g., gum, caramel, popcorn, chips).
✔ Pain management: If your child experiences sensitivity or discomfort, give Children’s Tylenol, Advil, or Motrin as directed for their age and weight.
🦷 After Pulp Treatment (Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy/Baby Root Canal)
✔ Mild sensitivity or discomfort is normal after treatment.
✔ Give Children’s Tylenol, Advil, or Motrin as needed.
✔ If discomfort persists beyond 24 hours, call our office for further guidance.
🦷 After an Extraction
✔ Protect the healing site:
🚫 No rinsing, spitting, or drinking through a straw for 24 hours.
🚫 Keep fingers and tongue away from the extraction area to prevent irritation.
✔ Manage Bleeding:
✔ If bleeding occurs, place a moistened gauze pad over the area and have your child bite down for 30 minutes.
✔ Repeat every 30 minutes until the bleeding stops.
✔ Diet & Activity:
✔ Stick to a soft diet (yogurt, mashed potatoes, applesauce) for 1-2 days or until they feel comfortable eating normally.
✔ Avoid strenuous activities for the rest of the day.
✔ Pain Management:
✔ If needed, give Children’s Tylenol, Advil, or Motrin as directed for their age and weight.
✔ If pain or sensitivity lasts more than 24 hours, call our office.
