Post-Treatment Care for Dental Fillings

Proper aftercare ensures your new filling settles comfortably and lasts for years. Please follow these instructions and contact us at 212-683-2530 if you experience persistent pain or sensitivity beyond a few days.

After Your Filling Appointment

🦷 If you received anesthesia:
Wait until numbness fully wears off before eating or chewing to avoid biting your lips, cheeks, or tongue.
For children: Closely supervise them to ensure they do not accidentally chew on their lips or tongue while numb.

🦷 For the first 24 hours:
Avoid sticky, crunchy, or hard foods (e.g., gum, caramel, nuts, ice) to allow the filling to fully set.
Chew on the opposite side of your mouth if possible.

Sensitivity & Discomfort

✔ Mild sensitivity to hot, cold, or pressure is normal for the first few days.
✔ If soreness or discomfort persists beyond a few days, please call our office.
✔ If you feel pain when biting, your filling may need a minor adjustment—contact us for a quick fix.
