Dentures and Partial Dentures

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. We have two types of dentures available: complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all teeth are missing, and partial when natural teeth still remain.

Complete Denture: Complete dentures can be either "conventional" or "immediate." Made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal, a conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about eight to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed.

Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases.

The complete denture may be either "standard" or "instant." The standard form is produced after the teeth have been extracted and the gum tissue has been cured (generally 4 to 6 weeks). The patient will go without teeth, during this period. Immediate dentures are done priory and placed immediately after the teeth have been extracted, preserving the patient from getting to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues are shrinking and healing, changes will have to be taken.

  1. Dentures are very lasting add ons and will last for many years, but may have to be remade, restored or re-adjusted due to traditional wear.
  2. Denture Reasons: Complete Denture-Loss of all teeth in the arch.
  3. Partial Denture-Loss of a few teeth in the arch.
  4. Enhancing smiles and face tissues.
  5. Improved chewing, utterance, and digestive system.

What's involved in having dentures?

The denture process takes several sessions, generally over a span of several weeks.  Highly precise impressions (molds) and dimensions are taken and used to produce your customized denture.  Several "try-in" appointments may be required to guarantee correct fit, color, and shape. At the final appointment, your dentist will tailor and position the finished denture exactly, providing a natural and safe match.

It's common to encounter enhanced saliva production, some soreness, and probable speech and eating difficulties, but this will decrease as your bones, muscles, and tissues get used to brand-new dentures.

You will receive care directions for your band-new dentures.  Proper washing of your brand-new dental appliance, excellent oral hygiene, and frequent dental appointments will make life easier for your dentures.
