Invisalign is a terrific choice for orthodontic treatment. Far more comfortable than traditional metal braces, Invisalign works through a series of clear plastic aligners that, over time, correctly position your teeth. These aligners are shaped from the computer-generated images that your dentist takes.
The Invisalign System
The Invisalign system moves your teeth into a straighter position over time. From a series of custom aligners, new trays are changed each week at home. Each time you place a new aligner in your mouth, your teeth are a bit straighter, as every subsequent tray is shaped to move and straighten teeth gradually into position over time until they match up with an aligner.
Instead of the fixed metal wires of traditional braces which pull teeth into a new position, Invisalign uses clear aligner molds.
Those individual aligners are each worn 1-2 weeks as prescribed. During the total time you wear Invisalign, your custom plan varies with the number of trays required, because you and your teeth are both unique.
However many aligner trays are worn, it’s important to keep them in your mouth for the 20-22 hours required daily. Otherwise, your teeth won’t move into the anticipated place, throwing off the aligner trays and their fit.
You’ll visit your dentist on average between eight to twelve weeks, to be sure the Invisalign treatment is progressing well.
